Dr Jon Sillar
BEng BCom MBBS FRCPA FRACP
Dr Jon Sillar is a clinical and laboratory haematologist and a fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. Jon grew up in Newcastle prior to completing his medical degree at The University of Sydney in 2010. He undertook junior medical training at The Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, prior to returning to Newcastle to focus on Haematology training. Following completion of his advanced training in Haematology, Jon went on to complete a leukaemia fellowship at the prestigious Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Canada, gaining valuable expertise in managing patients with acute leukaemias and myeloid neoplasms. He has been a Staff Specialist Haematologist at the Calvary Mater Newcastle since 2021.
Jon treats both malignant and non-malignant haematological disorders. He has a particular interest in managing patients with acute leukaemias and myeloid neoplasms, including myelodysplastic syndrome and myeloproliferative disorders, and has a keen interest in the workup of patients with unexplained cytopenias.
At the Calvary Mater Newcastle, Jon is actively involved with clinical trials for patients with myeloid neoplasms, including acute myeloid leukaemia, myeloproliferative neoplasms (polycythaemia vera, essential thrombocythaemia, primary myelofibrosis) and myelodysplastic syndrome.
Jon is a Conjoint Lecturer at the University of Newcastle with an active role in teaching medical students, junior doctors and advanced trainees in Haematology.
